Frequently Asked Questions

What do I need to host Christmas lunch?

Plan the menu, the seating and the timing, and have anything delivered by Christmas Eve. A Christmas lunch list:

  • A main: ham, turkey or seafood
  • Salads and sides that can be made the day before
  • Drinks, with soft drinks and water for the kids
  • Bonbons, place cards and a table setting
  • Dessert: a Christmas cake from Cake Mail, delivered on Thursday 24 December and kept in the refrigerator

What can I bring to Christmas lunch as a guest?

Offer to bring dessert: it travels well and the host rarely has time to make it. A Christmas cake from Cake Mail serves 12 or 25, so one cake covers the table. For a smaller gift for the host, the Nutella & Lotus cupcake box holds four cupcakes.

What is a Christmas cake?

A Christmas cake is a cake served at Christmas. In Australia it often means a rich fruit cake, but a chocolate or cream cake works as Christmas dessert too. Cake Mail's Christmas cakes are the second kind: fountain, ooze and chocolate cakes made to be the centrepiece of Christmas lunch.

Does Cake Mail make a traditional fruit Christmas cake?

No. The Christmas range is chocolate, pistachio and cupcake designs. For a fruit cake, look to a traditional bakery.

Which Christmas cakes can I order?

These Christmas cake ideas cover lunch at home, a gift and the office party:

When should I order a Christmas cake for Christmas Day?

Christmas Day 2026 falls on Friday 25 December, a public holiday, so Cake Mail delivers the day before. Order for delivery on Thursday 24 December. Order before 12pm that day for same-day delivery between 12:30pm and 5:30pm.

How do I keep the cake fresh until Christmas lunch?

Store it in the refrigerator for up to three days. A cake delivered on Christmas Eve is ready for lunch the next day.

Is there a special Christmas order cut-off?

There is no special cut-off for Christmas. Order before 12pm for weekday same-day delivery, or by 12pm Friday for Saturday.

Do you deliver between Christmas and New Year?

There is no delivery on Christmas Day (Friday 25 December), Boxing Day (Saturday 26 December), Sunday 27 December or the Boxing Day public holiday on Monday 28 December. New Year's Day, Friday 1 January 2027, is also a public holiday with no delivery. Tuesday 29 to Thursday 31 December follow the normal weekday rules: order before 12pm for same-day delivery between 12:30pm and 5:30pm.

What Christmas dessert can I bring to lunch?

A cake that serves the whole table. A standard 6 inch cake serves 12, and a party 8 inch cake serves 25, so one cake covers a family Christmas dessert without extra plates of sweets.

Are Christmas cupcakes good for an office party?

Yes. Christmas cupcakes need no cutting, and weekday deliveries arrive between 12:30pm and 5:30pm, in time for an afternoon party. The Christmas Cupcake Share Pack suits a team. For a large office, school or childcare centre, Cake Mail also takes bulk orders of single-wrapped Christmas cupcakes.

Can I send a cake as a Christmas gift in Sydney?

Yes. Send it to their home or workplace and add a gift note with your message. Christmas cake delivery covers Sydney Metropolitan and selected surrounding suburbs. Enter the address at checkout to confirm Cake Mail can reach it.

Which Christmas desserts contain nuts?

Some do, so check each product page before you order. The Nutella Ooze contains hazelnuts, the Pistachio Fountain carries pistachio, and the Christmas Cupcake Share Pack contains nuts. Each product page lists the full allergen line.
